SAVF Claremont

GEMEENSKAPSDIENSTE / COMMUNITY SERVICES

This project, SAVF Claremont Community Services, started in 1983 when the needs of this community became evident through the outreach for help from the local primary school. Children were hungry and unable to concentrate on their schoolwork. After an investigation into their social circumstances, it was found that their mothers were single parents without proper school qualifications and therefore without job opportunities.

A small group of woman started this project to provide education and job opportunities for their mothers, to empower and uplift themselves.

The slogan of this project is:

If you can work, you can eat and keep your dignity.

During the past 28 years SAVF Claremont structured a community based 1 stop service for the poorest of poor – irrespective of culture or creed.
